Reinstatement and Early Reinstatement of Driving Privileges
Why Do I Need a Colorado Springs DUI Lawyer?
For a first time DUI or
multiple DUI offenses, it is possible to get your driving privileges reinstated or, in some cases, apply for and obtain an early reinstatement of the privilege to drive. Your blood alcohol content and other factors determine the specific requirements which need to be meet in order for reinstatement to take place. Even in cases where the criminal charges against you were dismissed, in order to get your privileges reinstated you must adhere to the Department of Motor Vehicles rules and procedures.
Your chances of being able to legally drive again quickly will be greatly enhanced by using an experienced Colorado Springs DUI attorney from The Samuelson Law Firm. I am a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and The National College for DUI Defense and have lectured on
DUI defense strategies and related topics both nationally and internationally. An important part of this knowledge is how to obtain a reinstatement of your driving privileges.
Requirements For Reinstatement of Driving Privileges
Reinstatement involves providing to the DMV an SR 22 certificate and maintaining it for a specified period of time, giving proof of completion of alcohol education and therapy as required, properly completing an application for your driving privilege to be restored and having an ignition interlock device installed on vehicles that you drive. The SR 22 is a vehicle liability insurance document which gives proof that you have the minimum liability insurance coverage for our state.
In general, early reinstatement requires:
- Colorado residency
- Currently have your privileges revoked for DUI
- Served a minimum of 30 days of that revocation
- Provide an SR-22 form and maintain for three years
- Successful treatment of an alcohol or drug education course
- Installation of an ignition interlock device
- Completion of Form DR2780 for license reinstatement
- $95 check
In cases where your driving privileges have been revoked for more than a year and you have served at least a year under this restraint, you can also be eligible for early reinstatement. However, the best way to determine what you may be eligible for is to speak with an experienced defense attorney that can ensure you are taken care of during this process. Your freedom to drive is more than simply a privilege!
I know how essential it is that you are able to legally drive and expect to give you a higher level of service than most firms towards getting your privileges restored as quickly as possible. I treat your case as if it was my driving privileges on the line. To learn how your driving privileges can be restored after a DUI arrest,
