The Colorado Springs Police Department arrested a man last night for allegedly
attempting an armed robbery during which he wore a gas mask to conceal
his identity. The incident began around 10:50 p.m. when a passerby reported
that a shadowy man wearing all black clothing and a gas mask, was peeking
around the corner of a Loaf 'N Jug convenience store.
The officers arrived before the man entered the store, and the man took
off running into a nearby drainage ditch. A "suspicious" car
was found parked nearby in a mobile home park and they eventually caught
the man in a third-floor hallway of an apartment building. The 20-year-old
man was arrested and identified, and a "large handgun" was also
found by where the man was originally spotted lurking.
The man is being held on suspicion of attempted robbery, but police also
suspect him of last week's Diamond Shamrock robbery. If he is convicted
of robbery, the type of penalties that he will face depend on the value
of the items or money stolen. While petty theft is considered a misdemeanor,
grand theft is classified as a felony offense in Colorado. The definition of theft
covers a broad area, and can include
identity theft,
shoplifting and
burglary.
Without the help of a skilled Colorado Springs criminal lawyer, the man
accused of attempted robbery may face time in prison. The state of Colorado
dictates the level of punishment for a robbery conviction based upon the
level of violence used, any weapons that were involved and the amount
of money or property taken. At The Samuelson Law Firm, we understand how
to fight all types of robbery charges and we will never give up on your case.
